Women’s Month – August 2026 – Empowering Women

The more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on the 09th August 1956 (70 Years Ago) weren’t asking for permission to change their future. They stood together and demanded it.

Sometimes, because of how things seem now…we forget how it use to be, and how it could be even more different in the future.

Can you imagine being unable to move around in your own country due to the PASS Laws – discriminating against those with more melanin in their skin. It wasn’t just the pass laws, the entire system was rigged against people of colour, and then even more against women of colour. Apartheid, Group Areas Act, the Black Administration Act…

For me, today, I think of what it would be like working in Johannesburg, and not being able to drive down to Kwa-Zulu Natal for a long weekend, like this one – when I’m wanting to see my family, or go to the beach, or even to do business…

Today is the day we honour that strength. 20 000 plus Women marching. Empowering.
