National Braai Day this 24th September 2019, celebrates one of our country’s favourite past-times – to braai.

At Better Than Bread, we’ve upgrading our braai favourite, to create the: Better Than Bread Braaibroodjie.

Why? What reason would anyone have to alter an Absolute Classic Braaibroodjie?

Our answer: We literally cannot live with the blood sugar spike, and it’s crash if we use White Bread – sorry, just can’t do it.

The difference between a Better Than Bread Braaibroodjie and a Normal White Bread Braaibroodjie:

Better Than Bread Braaibroodjie Meal Composition; Carbohydrates 42%, Protein, 27%, Fat 23%, Fiber 8%
Better Than Bread Braaibroodjies, made with Better Than Bread 2 slices 65g, Cheddar Cheese 50g, Onion Slices 40g, Tomato Slices 40g, Chutney 15g.
Normal White Bread Braaibroodjie Meal Composition; Carbohydrates 63%, Protein, 20%, Fat 9%, Fiber 8%
Normal White Bread Braaibroodjies, made with 2 slices of White Bread 85g, Cheddar Cheese 50g, Onion Slices 40g, Tomato Slices 40g, Chutney 15g.

So, we’ve changed the bread to our high protein health bread, our Better Than Bread – 90 Second Mug Bread. Here is how to do it:

Recipe for Better Than Bread Braaibroodjies

  • Butter <Optional>
  • Chutney <Optional>
  • Cheese
  • Onion
  • Tomato
  • Better Than Bread (BTB) 90 Second Mug Bread

Method:

  1. Prepare your ingredients:
    1. <Optional> Melt the butter till its slightly soft.
    2. Grate cheese.
    3. Slice onion.
    4. Slice tomato.
    5. Make BTB 90 Second Mug Bread
    6. <Optional> Your choice of chutney
  2. Assemble your braaibroodjie:
    1. Prepare your 90 Second Mug Bread
    2. <Optional> Smear butter on the side you will be braai-ing
    3. <Optional> If you wish, smear the inside with your choice of chutney
    4. Drizzle the grated cheese on the inside
    5. Add slices of onion
    6. Add slices of tomato
    7. Top with another slice of BTB 90 Second Mug Bread
    8. <Optional> Smear the outside with butter
  3. Ready to braai.

Tips on perfecting Better Than Bread 90 Second Mug Bread:

  • Use a correctly sized container to create the perfect bread size.
  • For a more firm bread, increase microwave time.
  • For a fluffier bread, add an extra tablespoon of BTB Premix.
  • To reduce egginess, use only egg-whites (2) to one portion of BTB 90 Second Mug Bread.
